Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with HTS Logistics.
General — Heavy Haul Freight Brokerage
Heavy Haul Services →A heavy haul freight broker acts as an intermediary between shippers and carriers. HTS Logistics connects businesses that need to move oversized or overweight equipment with qualified, insured carriers — handling permits, route surveys, and coordination so you don't have to.
We ship excavators, cranes, bulldozers, wheel loaders, compactors, agricultural equipment, industrial machinery, and project cargo. We specialize in loads that exceed standard legal dimensions or weight limits and require RGN, step-deck, or flatbed trailers.
HTS Logistics brokers loads across all 48 contiguous United States. We have active carrier relationships in every region and manage state-specific oversize permits nationwide.
Heavy haul rates vary based on equipment dimensions, weight, distance, and permit requirements. As a broker, we source competitive carrier rates — typically ranging from $3 to $15+ per loaded mile depending on load class. Submit a quote request for an accurate estimate.
Yes. HTS Logistics manages all oversize and overweight permits, route surveys, and pilot car arrangements in-house. We handle state-by-state permit applications so your load moves legally and on schedule.
HTS Logistics is a federally licensed freight broker (MC# 1178470), not a carrier. This means we have access to a wide network of vetted, insured carriers and can match your load to the right equipment and driver — giving you more options and competitive pricing vs. a single carrier.
Heavy Haul Transport
View Heavy Haul Page →A load is considered heavy haul if it exceeds standard legal limits: over 80,000 lbs gross vehicle weight, wider than 8.5 feet, taller than 13.5 feet, or longer than 53 feet. These loads require oversize/overweight permits and specialized trailers.
An RGN (Removable Gooseneck) trailer has a detachable front section that drops to ground level, allowing heavy equipment to drive or be loaded directly onto the deck. RGNs are used for tall equipment like excavators, cranes, and large construction machinery where standard loading ramps can't accommodate the height.
Single-state permits typically process within 1–3 business days. Multi-state superload permits can take 5–10 business days depending on state agencies. We manage this process in-house and build permit timelines into your move schedule.
Pilot car requirements depend on the load dimensions and the states being crossed. Most loads over 14 feet wide require at least one escort. Loads over 16 feet wide or over certain length thresholds require front and rear escorts. We determine requirements during route planning.
Yes. We have experience coordinating pickups from Ritchie Bros, IronPlanet, and Cat Rental locations nationwide. We handle the documentation, permits, and carrier dispatch so auction purchases ship smoothly.

Dealership Auto Transport
View Dealership Transport Page →Dealership auto transport is the commercial movement of vehicle inventory — as opposed to personal vehicle shipping. It covers fleet moves between dealership rooftops, auction pickups, dealer-to-dealer transfers, and corporate fleet delivery. HTS Logistics handles this exclusively for commercial accounts.
Open transport loads vehicles on an uncovered multi-car trailer — the most common and cost-effective option for standard inventory. Enclosed transport places vehicles inside a covered trailer, protecting them from road debris, weather, and theft. Enclosed is typically used for high-value, classic, or luxury vehicles.
Standard open auto transport carriers hold 8–10 vehicles depending on size. We can arrange dedicated loads for fewer vehicles when schedules require it, or consolidate with other commercial shipments for cost efficiency.
Yes. We coordinate auction pickups from Manheim, Copart, ADESA, Ritchie Bros, IronPlanet, and other major auction platforms. We work within their gate release and scheduling processes to ensure smooth, on-time pickup.
No. HTS Logistics is strictly commercial. We do not ship personal vehicles, household relocations, or single private-party moves. We serve dealerships, auction buyers, and corporate fleet accounts only.

Carrier Partners
Carrier Setup Page →We primarily broker heavy haul loads — oversized and overweight equipment including excavators, cranes, bulldozers, generators, and industrial machinery. We also broker flatbed, step-deck, box truck, and auto transport loads for dealerships and auction houses.
Once you submit your carrier application with all required documents (MC#, DOT#, W-9, insurance certificate, signed carrier agreement), we typically complete our review within 24–48 business hours.
We require a minimum of $1,000,000 in general liability coverage and $100,000 in cargo insurance. For loads with equipment valued over $500,000, higher cargo coverage may be required. Your existing commercial truck insurance may already meet these requirements.
Yes. Before you accept any load, we provide full details including pickup and delivery locations, equipment description, dimensions and weight, permit requirements, and agreed rate. You always know what you're agreeing to.
We offer quick pay options for carriers who need faster payment. Standard payment terms and quick pay details are discussed during the onboarding process.
We generally prefer carriers with at least 6 months of active FMCSA authority and a clean safety record. Exceptions may be made for experienced operators with strong safety scores and appropriate equipment.
